Dia 5 : Fez
Today we will devote all day to visit this great city, the oldest, richest, cultural, religious, spiritual and mysterious of the four imperial cities of Morocco, where you can see that has not suffered the passage of time. The medina of Fez has to be visited without haste, for something it is the biggest of the Maghreb, to lose you by its labyrinthine alleys is the charm of this medina, but to appreciate this city it is necessary to cross it of day and then to the evening since it changes totally, during the day it is a bustling city full of people wandering by the trades, buying or only observing, but at the evening it acquires another speed, it is much more relaxed less oppressive. Its medina is a labyrinth of narrow streets with houses, shops and workshops comprising more than 150 neighborhoods, and each of them has its mosque, Koranic school, bakery etc … Fez hidden within its walls of abobe palaces, mansions, mosques and gardens that are like backwaters of peace that survive amid the hustle and bustle of its streets, for this reason when walking you have to observe each gate well because if it is open you can take the pleasant surprise that inside you find a different world … you can take the pleasant surprise that inside you find a different world. The best known monuments are the Mosque of Moulai Idris (9th century, rebuilt in the 13th century), the tomb of the city’s founder, the Qarawiyin mosque (founded in 859 and extended to the 13th century), the medersa Bu’ Inaniyya, a residence for Koranic students built in 1355 and the Andalusian mosque (founded in 860 and enlarged in 1200), must first be appreciated as a whole, and seen from its many viewpoints, before being immersed in the city’s vortex. From there you will observe the framework of the city, the tapestries of the houses, the penumbra of its streets, the pasty color of its houses, which have been anchored with their physiognomy since its foundation. The only thing that is out of tune with the atmosphere of past centuries are the TV antennas and satellite dishes.
Día 6: Fez-Chefchaouen
